Volunteer Befriender

Who can become a befriender?

There is no typical befriender, we are looking for volunteers from all walks of life – students, people working full time, part time, retired or not working – as long as you have some regular free time to commit.

You will need to be a good listener, caring, understanding and respect the confidential nature of being a befriender.

What will it involve?

  • Have contact with the Carer for 1 hour on a weekly basis. This can be through meeting face to face or telephone.
  • All volunteer befrienders are required to provide two references, have a basic disclosure and complete our training and induction.

Training and Support

Our Community Development Practitioner will support you through the application and training process, ensuring that you are fully equipped to become a befriender.

Once matched, befrienders are supported with frequent meetings to discuss progress and our Community Development Practitioner can be contacted by phone or email to discuss any aspect of befriending.
