"The Ogilvie Charities were founded in 1887 and run four sheltered housing schemes, two in Suffolk and two in Essex. These create a caring and supportive atmosphere for residents living independently in the self contained accommodation.  Ogilvie Homes and Ogilvie Almshouses are in Aldringham near Leiston, Suffolk. Charles May House and Estella House are situated in central Colchester, Essex.

As well as providing accommodation for the elderly, The Ogilvie Charities also manage several grant making funds:

Specific charitable projects

  • Lump sums paid to other charities towards specific projects

Essential household items

  • Grants towards household equipment for those in acute poverty

Funding for holidays for carers

  • To help carers afford holidays

Education and Training

  • Grants towards the cost of education and training; preference is given to those who have lived in an orphanage and/or have been in care, who are visually impaired and those who have been found guilty of a criminal offence in a UK court."
