A group of our Young Carers attended the Young Carer’s Festival “Festival on The Road”. We attended this along with the Young Carers group from Barnardos.

In the run up to the event we designed and made banners with help from Rig Arts and the Barnardos group.

The festival was held in Fordell Firs Fife and the Young Carers had a fantastic time even the typical Scottish weather of rain didn’t spoil the fun. (wet tents is all part of the fun of camping!) The Young Carers met government leader Willie Rennie, were mesmerised by magician Billy Reid, got their eyes down at a game of bingo and danced the night away in a silent disco.

It was up early the next morning for a day of jam packed activities. Grass sledging, inflatables, caving, petting zoo, archery, climbing and many more. They had the all-important consultation space where they got the opportunity to voice their opinions on what being a Young Carer means to them and what support and services matter to them. They ended the day off with a water slide!

This festival gave Young Carers the chance to have respite and a break from their caring role whilst meeting new people, challenging themselves and having fun!
