INVERCLYDE CARERS CENTRE

COUNSELLING

Due to demand from Carers, Inverclyde Carers Centre has secured funding from Inverclyde Community Health Partnership to develop counselling services for Carers.  The centre will deliver this in a range of ways, including 1-1 and group work sessions, to ensure the best possible service for Carer’s.

Individual Counselling

Counselling offers a safe, supportive environment enabling Carers to discover more about themselves, explore difficulties and find solutions.  Counselling is about change and empowerment.  Carers may bring issues to counselling, either directly or indirectly related to their Caring Role.  Examples include:

Relationships, Employment Difficulties, Addictions, Bereavement, Stress, Family Concerns, Sexuality, Management of Change

After an initial meeting Carers will be given a series of appointments, this will normally be for an hour at a time over eight weeks.

What Carers Can Expect From Us?

Counsellors are professionally trained and fully insured.  In most instances counselling services will take place in a private room within Inverclyde Carers Centre.  If this is not suitable we may consider using alternative premises.

Information discussed by Carers and Counsellors or Therapists will remain confidential and will not be discussed with Inverclyde Carers Centre staff or other parties.

Supporting People You Care For

We appreciate that circumstances can sometimes prevent carers from planning in advance, therefore centre staff may be able to arrange short break provision through authorised care providers to help Carers to attend appointments.

RELAXATION

Stress is normal and even necessary for a healthy life.  It is the tension created by external factors/pressures on the one hand, and our reactions and feelings about our circumstances and ourselves, on the other.

Stress Management Group

Experienced Holistic Therapists will lead a 6 week course which will help Carers identify the causes of stress and make small changes to help them cope with it.  This may include considering the impact diet and exercise have on stress or learning relaxation techniques.

1-1 Stress Management Treatments

Stress Management treatments engage with the whole person taking into consideration their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing and treating them in a holistic way.  Professional Stress Management Therapists will work with individual Carers to agree the most appropriate interventions from a range of skills available to them.  These may include aromatherapy, relaxation instruction and various massage techniques.

Relaxation Chair

The centre also has a relaxation chair in a private room which is available on a drop-in basis.
